The New Orleans Hornets NBA franchise moved from Charlotte , NC to New Orleans , LA and immediately noticed the immense task of developing a positive relationship with the predominantly African-American fan base it encountered in its new home. Of high importance to the team's premium seating sales staff, was the need to target market affluent African-American New Orleanians, who are more likely to purchase season ticket packages than blacks in lower income brackets. This niche audience is precisely the group with whom www.NewOrleansBlack.com holds a more impactful relationship than any media outlet in the city.
Hornets marketing representatives consulted Do-WAP on how to most effectively craft targeted messaging for this group that would generate the result of an increased quantity of season ticket package purchases among higher income groups of African-Americans. Both parties agreed that broad and general marketing campaigns, which spoke to the general public and not to any specific group, proved ineffective in reaching the desired African-American consumer.
